The Nova Institute is an independent organisation that aims to improve the quality of life of low-income households. The Nova vision is a healthy household culture in Southern Africa.

The Nova mission is to develop and promote ways (models, products, technologies, practices) to improve the quality of life of households. Nova executes its mission together with household residents and networks. Nova has developed a voluntary Gold Standard methodology and implemented several GS VER projects.

Core strengths

Nova renders the following services:

1. Research and development aimed at the functional integration of modern technology into the African household system, beginning with the household and not the technology

2. Expertise on pro-poor emission trading in the Southern African context

3. Community surveys, particularly health and quality of life impact measurement

Geographical scope

Nova projects are currently mainly in South Africa, but could expand to other Southern African countries in the near future.

Nova has a head office in Gauteng and a branch office in the Western Cape. In the last 10 years Nova has either worked in or networked with an entity in all provinces of South Africa. The Nova GS VER projects are mainly situated in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Free State.
